The Post 224 Baseball Field committee has had meetings all fall and winter with Easthampton Little League, the Parks and Recreation Office and Commission, the Community Preservation Act Commission and the City Council.
This past summer we had final approval from the C.P.A. Commission for $25,500 toward the Daley Field project, a joint effort between all the groups mentioned earlier. Post 224 Baseball went to the City Council to voice our opinion for final approval of the funds and it passed. The Mayor put his stamp of approval on it also.
So we have a good start on the financial end of the project. As you may know we have started fundraising in 2005 and have raised over 85% of Our goal of $30,000 by our Membership Program and various other fundraising events. Easthampton Little League is currently raising money for the project.
Working with Ed Piziak of the Parks and Recreation Department we have come up with a plan to start and complete the project this year. It looks like August. Post 224 Baseball and Easthampton Little League will be looking for volunteers to help us all with this project about this time.
The great news is the hard work is paying off and this joint project will benefit and add to our Baseball programs and to our community.
This preseason Post 224 Baseball will also be working on the White Brook Middle School Practice diamond we built last spring. We will be redoing the mound and infield dirt areas to put the field in better playing condition for Easthampton American Legion Baseball and Little League to practice on.
