Helping People Since 1887
"The purpose of the corporation shall be to engage in all forms of charity and to lend a helping hand to residents of Easthampton and surrounding communities with preference given to Easthampton residents irrespective of race, color or creed."
Our History
A group of women, known as the YOung Ladies Missionary Society, led by Emily Williston, dedicated themselves to local cheritable work. They later changed their name to The Helping Hand Society and provided hand sewn items, clothing and money for emergency situationbs, rent and fuel payments to people in need. In 1906 the Society decided to include visiting nurses to their services. This continued until 1968, when the Visiting Nurses Association was formed. Today, we continu e to lend medical equipment through our loan closet program.
The Helping Hand house, which was given to the society by Mr. Franklin Pitcher in 1919, along with an endowment for its upkeep, is located on Main Street in Easthampton. Our 100th year of helping Easthampton residents was celebrated in 1987. Today we continue our original mission to meet Easthampton resident's needs and support all town and community efforts.
