    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S LETTER

What a picnic!!! The food was fabulous and plentiful. A very special thank you to everyone who volunteered their time in helping to set up and clean up and to those fabulous cooks who brought such a vast amount of delicious homemade goodies and dishes. Unbelievable!!! It was great to have the Northampton Elks Club and the Friends of the Easthampton Council on Aging co-sponsor this year's picnic.

The hot and humid weather is finally behind us and it is great to see so many of you come in and take advantage of the Senior Center. It is especially wonderful to see the Fitness Center so busy. It is my intention to eventually incorporate additional fitness equipment to the Fitness Center, specifically equipment that will work out both the upper and lower body. We will need to investigate ways of raising money, whether through grants and/or private donations.

I am diligently working on fund raising efforts for the new Computer Lab. Seven letters were mailed to local businesses and organizations requesting donations to purchase six new computers. To date we have raised over $1500.00. My goals is $6000.00!!! Additional plans are being made to assist us with this venture. Anyone wishing to donate towards the Computer Lab can do so by contacting me or mailing a donation to the Senior Center, 19 Union Street, Easthampton, MA 01027. 1 would like to see the Computer Room up and running by next Spring. This program has been a goal of mine for the past three years and I am anxious to see it happen.

We received word that the Request For Proposal for the Community Development Block Grant to fund an additional 15 hours/week for the Outreach Program was turned down. I am disappointed with the outcome. The Outreach Program is one of the more important programs that the Senior Center offers, including home visits to Easthampton seniors requesting assistance with a wide variety of issues and concerns. Last year the Outreach Worker provided 316 Easthampton Seniors with 2088 units of service (intervention and/or home visit), all within a 20 hour work week. We will continue to seek out alternative funding sources to help supplement her present 20 hour/week position. Until next month.

EASTHAMPTON TRIAD PRESENTS: "WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER?" PROGRAM & 911 FLASHING LIGHT PROGRAM. If we can't find you, we can't help You!!!

The Easthampton TRIAD S.A.L.T. Council is offering the House Numbering Program and the 911-Flashing Light Program. The House Numbering Program provides you with a two-sided sing displaying 4-inch high reflective numbers attached to a 5-foot metal stake installed near your driveway or any selected place. The 911 Flashing Light is installed in an outside porch light or a lamp which can be seen from a front window and is controlled by a light switch. If the occupant of the home calls 911 because of an emergency, they would only need to turn the light switch on & off and then on again to trigger the blinking light. The reflective numbers and the 911 blinking light are easily identified by emergency personnel, thereby reducing delays, in receiving emergency assistance. There is no charge for participating in these programs. However, a donation of $5.00 per program would be greatly appreciated and will be used to purchase additional supplies for both programs. Please call the Easthampton Senior Center at (413) 527-6151 to sign up for either program.
