Easthampton's Sign Regulations
by Ada Counsman

The Community of Easthampton is abuzz with discussions on sign-regulations in our fair city. David Gardner, who is a long-time member of the Zoning Board of Appeals; offered to enforce the current city laws on outdoor signs that violate current city laws. The Easthampton Building Commissioner, Joseph Fydenkevez has appointed him as a Volunteer Enforcement Officer. And according to many small business people he has been a busy man.

Mantis Graphics and Sign Grafx, two local companies that make and sell these signs are both affected in multiple ways by this sudden enforcement of sign regulations. So their owners, Clay Crow and Derrick Mason are calling businesses and those affected or interested to action. They want to meet with the Economic Development and Industrial Committee in a Public Forum. They hope that both sides will become better educated on current law, enforcement of that law and what is needed to make Easthampton a friendly place for businesses to flourish.

The Economic Development and Industrial Committee will meet Thursday Feb. 21 4 PM at the Municipal Building, 50 Payson Avenue in a basement conference room. There is a new web blog on the subject of signs in Easthampton, where you can review past articles and actions. You can read it all and add your comments at: http://ehosigns.blogspot.com. If you prefer, you can email us and we'll convey your views to all the involved parties.
